ZEV-UP defines key metrics to measure project success

You are here:

To guide the ZEV-UP activities and ensure consistency, the project partners have established a comprehensive list of study questions and key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the project’s progress and success in achieving its main objectives. This critical work was coordinated by our partner ICOOR, in collaboration with CERTH, VEDECOM, FEV, Akkodis, Rhoé, University of Leeds, Ford Otosan, and Otokoç.

The KPIs and study questions are essential for assessing ZEV-UP’s impact, particularly in integrating circular economy principles and sustainable technologies. These include advancements in lightweight vehicle designs and improved battery systems that address environmental challenges while meeting stakeholder expectations.

Defined in alignment with the project’s objectives, the study questions and KPIs target a range of priorities: understanding market trends, enhancing operational efficiency, and fostering collaboration with stakeholders to create user-centred and socially inclusive solutions. These efforts aim to accelerate the adoption of light battery electric vehicles (BEVs) while addressing critical barriers.

The study questions and KPIs were defined following a robust methodology involving three main steps:

  • A literature review of projects focusing on BEVs and EV infrastructure
  • A stakeholder analysis to identify and understand their needs and interests related to EVs, which included an online survey to gather detailed insights
  • An impact area analysis of these five dimensions: market, technologies, operation, sustainability, and user acceptance.

For instance, ZEV-UP defined specific KPIs to address current barriers to EV adoption, such as high capital costs. To address this, two primary KPIs were defined and assessed under the SMART (Specific Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-bounded) approach:

  • Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Reduction
  • Price Reduction for the Basic 2-Seater ZEV-UP Version

The tools for collecting and evaluating these indicators are being developed and will be consolidated during the project’s evaluation framework task.

The ZEV-UP KPIs and study questions form the foundation of ZEV-UP’s evaluation framework. This not only sets the stage for the structured evaluation of ZEV-UP’s activities but also highlights our commitment to fostering innovation and sustainable solutions in the electric vehicle sector.
